Synchronized Winning

There’s got to be something in the water at Ohio State that has the teams in the athletic department defeating Michigan in the recent sporting events. It’s no lie that Ohio State’s athletic teams have always performed well, but when it comes to beating Michigan there is generally more to it than just doing well. Teams are driven by the rivalry and beating Michigan in any sporting event makes the win that much better. A few weeks ago the Men’s Track and Field team defeated Michigan and the Women’s team tied – still not a loss. This past weekend the synchronized swimming team also defeated Michigan by an impressive 30 point difference in the score.

When most people think of synchronized swimming they probably don’t think about competition. However, most schools in the country do have competitive synchronized swimming teams. The teams are made up of a various number of female athletes; the exact number depends on the school. These women are not like most other athletes, yes they do have to train and work out outside of the pool in order to perform well during their routines; however they also have to be able to do many things in the water that most athletes probably can’t do in or out of the water.

These women are not only competing against other schools, they are also in a sense competing against the water. It’s not easy to be able to perform intricate routines in the water because often times the water will push back against an athlete and make them have to work at least twice as hard to nail the routine. These female athletes have to take this into consideration when planning their routines. If they were to choose a routine in which there would be too much water resistance, the routine might not look as well as they would like. However if they were to choose a routine in which they could use the water to their advantage, they would probably have a better shot at winning the competition. The Ohio State Synchronized Swimming team has beautiful routines and started off their season with a bang by defeating Michigan.
