It’s Not Going To Be An Adjustment Year

Any avid college football fan knows that this past Wednesday was National Letter of Intent day. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s a huge deal in college sports. On this day every year is when incoming athletes to a school officially decide where they will be going and who they will be playing for. Ohio State had a great signing day for the football team. There were 25 incoming students who signed their letters stating that they will be playing for Ohio State next season. While NLI day has been big in the past with Jim Tressel, students are saying that this year is different – not only because Jim Tressel is no longer the head coach. They are saying this year is different because the players and the students want the win more than they have in the past.

With last year at Ohio State having scandals brought up and NCAA violations, the football season was not what it usually amounts to. Ohio State lost to Michigan for the first time in seven years – at home no less. Students have said this affects them is that it makes them not angry but determined. The students at Ohio State are saying that they don’t expect to “blow the socks off” the other teams this upcoming season when the football team is playing, but they do hope that the team will show the rest of the schools that “we are Ohio State and they should be afraid of us beating them.”

For many schools, the first year that you have a new head coach in any sport, it’s an adjustment year. Players have to get used to the new coaching styles and the new coach. They also have to get used to having new players on the team. This upcoming season will be Urban Meyer’s first season as head coach. What the ultimate question comes down to though is, will this be an adjustment year or not? The NLI day was a big day for Meyer as the coach. Students don’t only sign intent to schools they want to play for; they sign intent to the coach as well. Seeing as how Meyer brought in 25 letters of intent his first NLI day at OSU, it’s making the students think and hope that this won’t be an adjustment year. Students are hoping that this will be a year in which the football team shows the country what they’re really made of.
