It’s not a surprise that Buckeye’s always rank well when they are competing. This is no different for the 2012Wooden Award Midseason Top 25. For those of you that don’t know what this list is here’s some background information. The list ranks collegiate level players from all over the country. Any player is eligible to be on the list. Eventually the list turns into a player receiving the John R. Wooden Award. If you ask any collegiate basketball player how they would feel about receiving this aware most likely all of them would be honored. This award is a highly prestigious award in college basketball.
Ohio State has two players on the Top 25 list this year, William Buford and Jared Sullinger. This is something to truly be proud of as a university. The really impressive part however deals with Sullinger; he is the only player on the list this year that was also on the list last year. Sullinger made it to the finals for the award last year. Students are hoping that he makes it to the finals and wins the award this year. Most students don’t know much about Jared Sullinger besides the fact that he’s great at basketball. Sullinger is more than just great at basketball though and being on this list two years in a row now proves that.
The Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list doesn’t focus only on a player’s talent in basketball, it also looks at their grade point average (GPA) and if they are heading towards graduation. Both Sullinger and Buford are clearly doing well in school, in order to be on this list they have the GPA above the minimum requirement of a 2.0 and they are both making ways towards graduation as well as being exceptional players for Ohio State. Student’s that had no idea what this list is or what a player can achieve from being on this list did their research after the announcement of the list came out and all of them that I have talked to about it are psyched. They know that it would be an honor to Sullinger or Buford if one of them was to receive this award. All students are pulling for either player for this year’s John R. Wooden Award.
